The Carpenter shop provides carpentry services including the following services:
- Repair and replacement of doors and door locks
- Repair and replacement of windows, glass and screens
- Repair, replacement, and installation of ceiling and floor tile
- Repair, constructing and assembling of furniture (including lock repairs)
- Mirror installation and replacement
- General carpentry maintenance services
- Repair of miscellaneous equipment
- Installation of signs
- Services for special events
- Remodeling
- Special projects
The Electrical shop provides electrical services including the following services:
- Repair and maintenance of all campus electricity distribution systems including transformers, substations, high-voltage lines and emergency lighting and power systems.
- Repair and maintenance of security systems and fire alarms
- Repair and maintenance of outdoor and internal lighting (including replacement of light bulbs for light fixtures on ceilings over 8 feet in height)
- Installation, repair and maintenance of building automation systems
- Repair and maintenance of food service equipment
- Repair of miscellaneous equipment
- Repair and replacement of clocks
- Services for special events
- Preventative maintenance
- Remodeling
- Repair and maintenance of passenger elevators
- Repair and maintenance of freight elevators
- Repair and maintenance of escalators

The Heat/Frost shop provides the following services:
- Install, repair and replace thermal insulation systems for all hot and cold applications to all variations of the mechanical systems being utilized on campus. This would include the following:
- Piping
- Pumps
- Ductwork
- Tanks
- Vessels
- Associated equipment of the mechanical infrastructure (steam, plumbing, chilled water, refrigeration, and HVAC applications)
- Install protective jacketing system insulation consisting of PVC, aluminum, stainless steel and mastic with embedded glass mesh.
The Key Control shop provides the following services:
- Issuing of keys
- Creation of new cores and keys
- Recore, recombinate, replace and repair cores
- Replacement of lost and damaged keys
- Picking locks and unlocking of file cabinets
- Recombinate and fix safes
- Maintenance of computer program to ensure key combinations are not duplicated throughout NIU
- Install and repair proximity locks
- Programming of proximity locks

The Mason shop provides masonry services including the following services:
- Repair and maintenance of sidewalks and other concrete areas
- Repair and maintenance of wall and floor ceramic tile
- Repair and maintenance of plaster
- Tuckpointing
- Repair and maintenance of brick and stone
- Remodeling
- Re-caulking of precast panels and control joints on buildings
- Caulking and repair of sidewalks and decks (concrete to concrete)
The Painters shop provides interior and exterior painting of the following:
- Classrooms, offices, residence hall rooms, public areas, doors
and frames - Drywall finishing
- Remodeling
- Floor finishing
- Graffiti removal
- Shop spray finishes
The Plumbing shop is composed of plumbers, pipefitters and pipefitter/welders and provides services which include the following:
- Repair and maintenance of pipe and valve leaks
- Repair and maintenance of sinks and toilets
- Repair and maintenance of the steam, water distribution systems, compressed air and sewer systems including
storm water - Preventative maintenance services to ensure that the steam which is generated by the Heating Plant is effectively and efficiently routed to all buildings
- Services to protect the public potable water supply served by the DeKalb Water Department from the possibility of contamination or pollution. This includes isolating within its customer's internal distribution system
such contaminants or pollutants which could backflow or back-siphon into the public water system. - Repair and maintenance of food service equipment
- Repair of miscellaneous equipment
- Services for special events
- Remodeling
The Refrigeration shop provides services which include the following:
- Repair and maintenance of all air conditioning equipment
- Repair and maintenance of freezers and refrigerators
- Repair and maintenance of ice machines
- Repair and maintenance of food service equipment
- Repair and maintenance of chemical storage equipment, environmental chambers, incubators
and other miscellaneous refrigeration equipment - Remodeling
The Roofing shop provides the following services:
- Supervise the replacement and work of outside roofing contractors
- Work with Architectural & Engineering Department on campus roof projects
- Repair
leaks - Replace missing shingles
- Clean gutter debris from rooftops
- Flash new penetrations
- Maintain problem areas during the winter (ice dams, icicles, etc.)
- Inspect roofs and make necessary repairs to prolong roof life
The Sheet Metal shop provides the following services:
- Ventilation systems (fans,
duct work , remodel and new installations) - Kitchen and food prep stainless steel (
counter tops , tables, wall panelsand corner guards) - Architectural sheet metal (roofs, gutters, downspouts
and - Sheet metal fabrication (cutting, shearing, forming, welding - multi-process and spot welding)
- Testing and balancing (air balancing, hydronic balancing
and fume hood testing)
