Holmes Student Center Renovation
This $20.9 million Holmes Student Center – renovation phase I project began construction in the summer of 2018. The project renovated approximately 70,000 square feet of the 320,000 square feet within the building. The ground floor and basement levels of the building closed to the public at the end of the spring semester and were reopened beginning October 2019 in time for Homecoming weekend. The renovation included a completely renovated ground floor with all-new food venues, student lounge and collaborative spaces, bookstore and remodeled Huskie Den bowling center and event space. The NIU letters sculpture located in the MLK Commons donated by Dennis and Stacey Barsema was unveiled when the renovation reopened.
