Summer Housing

Are you looking for summer housing on campus? We can help you! We offer students in need of summer living accommodations with affordable and convenient housing on campus. To sign up for summer housing, all you need to do is complete the summer housing contract online. After your contract is finalized, you will be assigned a room by the Housing and Residential Services Office. Summer contracts will be available on April 14, 2026 at 10 a.m., and room assignments will be put in place by late-April, for early contracts.

Eligibility Criteria for Summer Housing

• Newly-admitted students: must be fully admitted to the university and be enrolled in summer classes in order to sign up for summer housing. You would be eligible to move in the weekend before the start date of your summer course, typically the start of session 2.
• Current students, but not living on campus: must be enrolled in either spring 2026  or fall 2026 classes in order to sign up for summer housing. You are eligible to live in summer housing starting with the transition date for session 1 (see below).
• Current on-campus residents: must be enrolled for either the  2026 spring semester or the  2026 fall semester. You will move from your spring room to your summer room in Patterson Hall on Thursday, May 14, 2026
• Summer athletes: you will complete your contract online, and then work through Athletics to be assigned a bed space. If you are an incoming student for the summer/fall 2026 session, you must also be fully admitted to NIU.

Contract Periods and Room Rates

You have several options for the length of your stay. The later housing sessions are only available to summer residents who have signed up for a fall 2026 room on campus. All other students must leave by August 7 at 2 p.m. The summer 2026 rate is assessed at a rate of $4035.38.  This is prorated based on the number of sessions and billed at a daily rate equivalent (approx. $39.56 per night).

Session 1	$1,345.13 (34 days)	Saturday, May 9 through Friday, June 12 This session runs from the end of the spring semester until the beginning of the summer session. You will move from your spring room to your summer room on Thursday, May 14 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Session 2 Summer session	$2,215.50  (56 days)	Friday, June 12 through Friday, August 7 This period runs through the end of the summer session. Check-in is available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June12. If you don't have a fall 2026 room, you must leave by 2 p.m. on August7
Session 3 End of summer session Must have a session 2 and fall 2026 room. Session 3 is automatically added for students living on campus in fall 2026	$474.75   (12 days)	Friday, August 7 through Wednesday, August 29 Transition dates from summer to fall housing assignments will be communicated in early August for continuing students.

All rates include Technology Access Fee and Residence Hall Surcharge. There are no residential dining plans for the summer school session. For information on dining services, please visit Campus Dining Services.

Location

All summer rooms are located in Patterson Hall.

• All floors are coed with standard quiet hours and standard alcohol policy expectations.
• Adult conference groups and other guests of the university may also occupy the building at various times during June and July.
• Students currently living on campus for the spring semester will need to be prepared to relocate to Patterson Hall if they plan to stay on campus during the first summer session.
• Students currently on campus that will not need housing until second summer session will need to properly check out of their current space per spring semester closing instructions. Students may then arrange for a check in when Session 2 begins on June 12, 2026.
