Summer Housing

Are you looking for summer housing on campus?

We offer summer housing in New Hall West.

To sign up for summer housing, all you need to do is complete the summer housing contract online and you will be placed in a room by the Housing and Residential Service Administration Office. Summer contract will be available on April 17, 2020 at 9:00 am.  

Northern Illinois University and Housing and Residential Services will continue to closely monitor activities and developments related to the spread and management of coronavirus (COVID-19) in coordination with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Illinois Department of Public Health and the DeKalb County Public Health Department.

We will continue to practice social distancing in our assignment process. If you are currently living on campus and are assigned to a space in New Hall West, we will do our best to minimize the need to reassign you to a new space, but depending on several factors it may be necessary for you to move to a new space for the duration for the summer. If you are currently living in New Hall East and want to stay for the summer session, we will need to reassign you to a new space. Our staff will work with you to set up an appropriate time to move your items to your new assignment when the spring semester concludes in early May.

To be eligible for Summer Housing, students who are:

  • Newly admitted students: Must be fully admitted to the university and be enrolled in summer classes in order to sign up for summer housing. You would be eligible to live in summer housing starting with session 1 (see below).
  • Current students, but not living on campus: Must be enrolled in either Spring 2020, Summer 2020 session or Fall 2020 classes in order to sign up for summer housing. You are eligible to live in summer housing starting with session 1 (see below).
  • Current on-campus residents: Must be enrolled for either the 2020 spring semester, Summer 2020 session or the 2020 fall semester. You will move from your spring room to your summer room in New Hall West as determined by the Housing Staff
  • Summer Athletes: You will complete your contract online, and then work through NIU Athletics to be assigned a bed space for the summer term.
  • Housing Employees: Submit your information through your supervisor to be assigned a space.

Contract Periods and Room Rates

You have several options for the length of your stay. The later housing sessions are only available to summer residents who have signed up for a fall 2020 room on campus.

Session 1

Saturday 5/9 through Sunday 6/14 (36 nights)  •  $1,512

This session runs from the end of the spring semester until the beginning of the summer session. You will move from your spring room to your summer room in New Hall West as determined by the Housing Staff.

Session 2
Summer session

Sunday 6/14 through Friday 8/7 (54 nights)  •  $2,268

This period runs through the end of the summer session. Check in on 6/14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

If you don't have a Fall 2020 room, you must leave by 8/7 at 3 p.m.
Session 3
End of summer session
Must have a fall 2020 room.

Friday 8/7 through Friday 8/14 (7 nights)  •  $294

You will move to your fall room on Friday 8/14 from 12 - 5 p.m.

Session 4
Fall early arrival
Must have a fall 2020 room.

Friday 8/14 through Friday 8/21 (7 nights)  •  $161

Location

All summer rooms are located in New Hall West.

  • All floors are coed with standard quiet hours and standard alcohol policy expectations.
  • Until further notice, guests are not permitted in New Hall West and there is no guest registration available. If these restrictions change, students will be notified at the hall level.
  • Only one student will be place in each suite space to adhere to social distancing recommendations. This will allow for each resident to have a private bathroom. Social distancing guidelines should be followed in all common areas.
  • Students currently living in New Hall East will need to be prepared to relocate to New Hall West if you contract for summer housing.
  • Current residents who do not contract for summer housing will need to check out of their room per guidelines provided by the New Hall Staff at the conclusion of the regularly scheduled spring 2020 semester.
