Teaching Expertise and Approach
Jodi teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in college literacy education. She describes her approach to teaching as follows:
"I approach my teaching through an assets-based framework in that I believe each student comes to class with unique experiences. As such, I find that student's strengths and differences can be utilized as resources to meet learning objectives and goals. The variety of assets from the collective student body in the classroom helps me as a faculty member be more effective in my teaching when I put students at the forefront of teaching by utilizing their assets that come from their unique backgrounds (culture, community, language, thought, relationships, etc.). Helping students 'see' themselves as valuable players in the classroom truly creates a meaningful and trusting environment for learning to happen."
