NIU offers many opportunities to get involved with promoting sustainability on campus and in the area.
Engagement Opportunities
One way is by attending Earth Fest and other events that build community while educating people about sustainability.
Using Huskie Hub, check out events hosted by student organizations and departments. On the NIU Events Calendar, use the filter feature to search for sustainability events via the “Topics” tab.
If you are an NIU student, consider joining a student organization. This is a great way to learn about sustainability while meeting people with similar interests.
If you work for NIU, consider pursuing Green Office Certification. You’ll learn more about and promote sustainable actions while reducing the university’s impact on the environment.
Learn
To learn more about sustainable practices, read about recycling at NIU and review the Green Living Guide for NIU students, faculty and staff. The Environmental Resource Center also provides tips and resources on a variety of ecological issues/concerns.
More Ways to Get Involved
- Buy plants at the annual Environmental Studies plant sale.
- Kayak on the lagoon or go on another NIU Recreation Adventure.
- Visit the campus greenhouse.
- Volunteer at or use the services of the Huskie Food Pantry and/or Huskie Closet.
