The NIU Sustainability Leadership Academy is an academic year-long professional development for NIU staff, faculty, and administrators to learn about sustainability and apply this knowledge to their own departments. The academy provides opportunities to connect with peers, strengthen sustainability knowledge, enhance leadership skills and create positive change.
Participants will gain access to online modules to be completed between our monthly in-person meetings. While learning, participants will create a sustainability-based project to implement in their departments to support institutional goals around climate action.
Online modules will include videos, brief reading materials and worksheets. In-person meetings will include module discussion, guest speakers and time to work on projects. Projects will focus on your sustainability interests and departmental needs. Projects must be completed using existing departmental funding; however, projects will be designed to be low cost or reduce overall costs within the department.
