Teaching Expertise and Approach

Anne teaches undergraduate and graduate courses thinking, research methods, problem solving and reasoning, and instructional psychology. She describes her approach to teaching as follows:

"I am trained as a cognitive psychologist studying learning and comprehension. In terms of instruction, I construct and test theories of purposeful reading and design instruction using current empirically based principles. Students can thrive best with engaged learning activities, modelling and structured practice with feedback, and supports to make the task more approachable. I have more recently included motivational theories to help me support the effortful cognitive work that needs to be done in the classroom."
