History

Established in 1985 and with our first classes in spring 1986, our roots are in NIU's industrial arts program, which taught such skills as woodwork, metalwork, book binding and printing in the early 1900s. As industrial technology advanced, class offerings expanded. Engineering and technology departments continued to grow.

CEET has garnered national and international recognition for its programs and the college maintains accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering (ABET) and Technology and the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE). In 1995, the $43 million, 125,000-square-foot Engineering Building opened.

Today, the college continues to benefit the community while offering top-tier instruction. By connecting students with training and research opportunities in the area, we play a vital role in local economic development.
