Coaches Personnel Files

Purpose:

This record series consists of personnel files for former and present men's athletic coaches at Northern Illinois University maintained for historical/reference purposes.  Included are documents related to the hiring of the coach, increment papers, newspaper articles regarding the coach, and related correspondence.

Procedure:

Retain in office for five (5) years following termination of the coaches' employment by the University, then transfer to the University Archives for permanent retention.

Lettermen Files

Arranged By:   Alphabetical by sport, then Chronological

Purpose:

This record series consists of the lettermen files for the men's athletic teams.  These files are comprised of listings by sport of the names of individuals who have lettered in the sport and the years which they lettered.

Procedure:

Retain in the office for ten (10) years, then transfer to the University Archives for permanent retention.
NCAA Correspondence

Purpose:

This record series consists of correspondence between the University and the NCAA for such things as information requests on athletes, information about recruiting, clarifications of questionable eligibility, etc.

Procedure:

Retain in office for three (3) years, then dispose of extraneous items with review assistance from University Archives staff and University's Legal Counsel.  Transfer remaining accumulation to the University Archives for evaluation and accessioning of records possessing archival value.

NCAA Legislative Interpretations

Purpose:

This record series consists of interpretations of current NCAA legislation.

Procedure:

Retain in office for ten (10) years or until the administrative value has expired, whichever is longer, then dispose of.
