About the Ethics and Compliance Office

The Board of Trustees and President Lisa Freeman called for a university-level compliance program to foster a culture of ethical excellence and accountability, and to increase transparent practices. This aspiration was included in a specific Board of Trustees’ priority and presidential goal. As a result, in 2018, the Ethics and Compliance Office (ECO) was established. Reporting directly to President Freeman, ECO advances the university’s mission through the creation of a campus environment that promotes the highest standards of ethics, integrity and responsibility to enhance the programs and activities that NIU provides within the university and to the public at large.
