Navigate Student
Navigate Student can help you plan classes, communicate with your advisor and more. Watch an intro to Navigate Student video to learn about using the platform and the benefits it provides.
If you have a question or need assistance with Navigate Student, submit a Navigate help form. We'll respond within 24 hours (Monday-Friday).
How to Access Navigate Student
First, download the Navigate Student app or visit the Navigate Student website.
Then, use your student Z-ID and password to log in.
If you need help logging in, contact the NIU Service Desk at 815-753-8100 or servicedesk@niu.edu.
Student Planner
Navigate Student Planner is an alternative to MyNIU's shopping cart. If you plan your courses in Navigate, you won’t have to use MyNIU's shopping cart.
Any courses registered in MyNIU will appear in Navigate the next day.
If you’re unable to register in Navigate Student Planner on your assigned registration day and time, you can use MyNIU to search for the courses you planned in Navigate and register.

Study Buddies
The Navigate Study Buddies feature helps you easily connect with students in your classes.
By joining the Study Buddies group for a class, you let other students know you’re interested in studying together. Then, Study Buddies helps you connect with interested classmates through email. Once you’re connected, you can communicate using whatever method you prefer, in person or virtually.
Use Study Buddies to:
- Form study groups to review material
- Work on group projects and prepare for presentations
- Coordinate rides to off-campus class meetings
- Discuss class notes and content to help one another before tests
- Reinforce your own learning by assisting fellow students
