Student Tutorial: Introduction

The purpose of this tutorial is to promote academic integrity at Northern Illinois University by increasing your awareness of academic integrity and offering strategies to protect yourself from academic dishonesty situations. It will take about an hour to complete the tutorial, which is organized into six sections:

  • Cheating, Fabrication, Falsification and Sabotage
  • Plagiarism
  • Protecting Yourself

Follow these tips before you start:

  • Learn more about the tutorial and read navigation tips.
  • Take the tutorial on a laptop or desktop instead of a mobile device, which may have privacy settings that block cookies.
  • Make sure cookies are enabled on your browser. This is necessary to save your progress and view/print your completion certificate. No personal information is saved on the site.
  • Disable pop-up blockers and close programs such as Microsoft Office, Blackboard, etc.
  • Do not open the tutorial by clicking a link to it on Blackboard, Word or any other program. This can lead to problems viewing/printing your completion certificate. Type the URL into your browser instead.

Even though you may not cheat or plagiarize, you can still unintentionally compromise your academic integrity.
