Director of Writing Across the Curriculum

Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) is a long-running movement in higher education whose specific mission at NIU is to support faculty and students by helping them integrate writing as a part of their teaching and learning processes. Effective writing: (1) requires practice in all courses and takes a lifetime to develop; (2) is highly situated in your own discipline’s academic contexts and conventions, and (3) depends on every student’s literacy experiences throughout their academic and professional lives.

It is the mission of WAC to offer you and your students support in the following ways:

  • Workshops, where you can develop and discuss meaningful writing activities for students in the company of colleagues from other disciplines.
  • Projects, where your department or program can transform learning, teaching, and research into a culture of high-impact practices and student engagement.
  • Supplemental instruction for your students, where you can partner with the University Writing Center and help students become better writers.
