Connecting with Faculty and Staff
As a Huskie, remember that relationships are resources.
Get to know faculty and support staff on campus. Build lasting relationships with your professors, advisors and other staff members, and seek out their help when you need guidance and support. We're here for you and want you succeed in your classes and in life.
“Talk to your professors. Go to office hours and ask questions. Those conversations can help you find out what other students do to be successful. Building a relationship with your professor will make it easier to get help when you are struggling in a class.”Nicole LaDue,
Professor, Department of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment
“Reach out for help. This includes fellow students, faculty, staff and student support services. I've personally gotten help from the Writing Center (as have many other faculty). Ask questions. I see that as a sign of intelligence and curiosity. Faculty are constantly seeking help from their peers at NIU and other institutions.”Theodore Hogan,
Associate Professor, Department of Engineering Technology
“The tagline that resonates with me at NIU is: Huskies. Never. Quit. This is such an important motto that I would also translate into advice to students currently attending NIU. Meet your challenges head on and don’t quit. Don’t give up. Keep going and know that you can do it.”Shondra Clay,
Chair, School of Preventive and Applied Health
“The biggest takeaway is for students to be creative thinkers and socially conscious global citizens. These are qualities that will prepare them for the world, and enable them to be relevant and prepared for any job given the fluid nature of work and career paths. There are a lot of opportunities to learn and grow at NIU. Students need to be involved and explore. Professors are always a good start, especially when you are taking their classes.”Abu Bakarr Bah,
Professor, Department of Sociology and Criminology
