Be an Active Part of What Makes NIU Home
As a Huskie, you have many opportunities to help build community and contribute to student life on campus while gaining leadership skills and building relationships:
- Join the Campus Activities Board (CAB), our student-run organization devoted to bringing a variety of events to campus throughout the year. From large concerts to intimate leadership development sessions, CAB provides you with cultural, social, educational and entertainment programs that are responsive to Huskies' diverse needs.
- Participate in the Student Government Association (SGA) and play a critical role in the university's system of shared governance. SGA serves as the voice of the student body to the administration and creates active leaders on campus by cultivating an environment of learning and experiences that go beyond the classroom.
- Seek out one, or many, student leadership opportunities to strengthen your skills and our community. From on-campus jobs and undergraduate research projects to student organization leadership opportunities, there are many ways to get involved!
What Huskies Say About Our Community
“The strong sense of community at NIU is one aspect of my experience that has pleasantly surprised me. I’ve been encouraged and welcomed to participate in various activities, whether through student clubs or the support provided by staff and faculty. Additionally, the resources available to students are excellent, and the inclusiveness on campus is truly great.”Precious Aina,
nursing major
“I’m a part of a Greek organization, which has helped me spread my wings throughout campus. I am very open-minded and have a big personality, so I am able to communicate and to get to know people on a deeper level, which helps me make new friendships and bonds.”Xavier Phillips,
marketing major
