Message from the Chief
On behalf of the dedicated men and women of the Northern Illinois University Department of Police and Public Safety, I welcome you to our website. Here you will find a variety of information and resources about safety and the services we provide to the community. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the information and partner with us in keeping our campus safe.
We are a full-service police agency devoted to excellence in service in support of the advancement of knowledge and student-career and life success. Our primary goal is to ensure a safe and secure educational and working environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors. Our organizational values are reflected in our mission statement and are carried out by all our department members.
We strive for excellence with the development of unique programs that provide unparalleled service to our community. To name a few, we have established a community policing unit to engage students in the residence halls and the surrounding community. In addition, we have cross trained officers to serve as paramedics to improve medical response time for critical care.
We work closely with the DeKalb Police Department and other law enforcement agencies to proactively reduce crime and address quality of life issues in our community. We treat all citizens with dignity and respect while providing fair and impartial police and public safety services to the University and DeKalb community.
We welcome your feedback on how we can provide better service. To share your comments, suggestions, and ideas please feel free to contact me at 815-753-9630 or firstname.lastname@example.org. In addition, we are always available for walk-ins at our centrally-located station at 395 Wirtz Drive, across Lucinda Avenue from the parking lot of the Campus Life Building.
Thomas R. Phillips, Sr.
Chief of Police
