Are you a current or incoming NIU student whose parent is an operating staff (civil service) employee at NIU? Apply for the Dependent Scholarship! The scholarship (more than one may be awarded to separate individuals, and up to $1,000) is made possible through the fundraising activities of the Operating Staff Council.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the scholarship, you must:
- Be the child of an NIU operating staff employee or operating staff retiree. The employee or retiree must have worked at NIU a minimum of two years.
- Be a full-time student pursuing an undergraduate, graduate or professional degree at NIU.
- Meet all admission requirements of the college, department or program in which you plan to pursue a degree.
- Complete the application form in the MyScholarships system.
Please note: If you're a previous Dependent Scholarship recipient, you can reapply. To be eligible for consideration, you must have an overall GPA of 2.50 or higher.
Application Information
You can apply for the scholarship online through MyScholarships. Search for "Operating Staff Dependent Endowed Scholarship." All items must be completed, and your information will be kept confidential.
The application deadline is January 31.
Scholarship Distribution
The awarded amount will be distributed equally in the fall and spring semesters. If selected, you must be enrolled at NIU in order to receive the scholarship. If you're not enrolled at NIU at the time of distribution, you won't receive the award.
The scholarship will be processed by NIU's Financial Aid and Scholarship Office and applied to your bursar account.
