Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

With classes now in session, the Ethics and Compliance Office wants to take this opportunity to remind members of our campus community that maintaining an academic and workplace environment free from discrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct, remains a high priority for the university.

Members of the community should be aware of the following important points:

  • We will remain open and functioning remotely at this time.
  • You are also encouraged to continue filing reports and complaints electronically.
  • Investigations will be conducted via electronic means and supportive measures will be issued to assure that an individual's access to the university's education programs or activities is not impeded.
  • University policies on discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct apply to behaviors that occur in-person between members of the university community, but also apply to online and virtual misconduct.
  • Any in-person behavior that is prohibited by policy is also likely prohibited in cyber-forms, including cyber-harassment and cyber-stalking.
    • Conduct that is prohibited on-campus is also prohibited off-campus.
  • Faculty and staff who are "responsible employees" are reminded that reports of sexual misconduct are expected when they become aware of suspected or actual incidents involving members of the campus community, regardless of how they learn of the potential misconduct - in person, in writing or online.

Anyone impacted by sexual misconduct, discrimination, harassment or retaliation is encouraged to contact us at eco@niu.edu.
