Undergraduate Research Month: April 2025

Celebrate undergraduate research at NIU all month long.

This April, the Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning (OSEEL) and the University Honors Program invite you to celebrate NIU’s first Undergraduate Research Month.

Our undergraduate students have many opportunities to gain skills and experience to be future leaders and make impactful change through research and artistry. We’re excited to recognize and promote their achievements, as well as thank their faculty and mentors, with varoius ways for the campus community to get involved.

NIU’s Undergraduate Research Month coincides with national Undergraduate Research Week, set for April 21-25 by the Council on Undergraduate Research.

Get Involved

  • Show Your Gratitude

Students, please fill out a brief survey to share how research impacted your undergraduate experience and thank those who supported you. We look forward to sharing your gratitude posts on NIU’s social media channels as part of Research Month, to let the campus community and beyond know about your accomplishments. Please include a photo if you have one.
  • Attend the Kickoff Event

Faculty, staff and students from all colleges and disciplines are invited to attend the Undergraduate Research Month kickoff event on April 3, 2025, 3-4:30 p.m., at Founders Memorial Library in the staff lounge, located in the lower level. During this event, we will recognize the impact of undergraduate research at NIU and examine the question, “What is knowledge creation?”
  • Engage With This Year’s Theme

What is knowledge creation? Faculty are invited to facilitate engaging conversations with students in their classes by reflecting on and analyzing the Council on Undergraduate Research’s definition of undergraduate research. Students can submit their reflections to be incorporated into the kickoff event.
