Huskie Service Scholars

The Huskie Service Scholars (HSS) program connects incoming freshmen or first-year transfer students with campus sites and local community organizations through service-learning projects.

Join a team of HSS and have an impact on specific campus initiatives and local social issues. In return, build your support network and gain valuable skills related to teamwork, project management, cultural competencies and communication. HSS is geared towards first-generation or Pell-grant eligible students.

As an HSS fellow you will:

  • Make a difference on campus or in our surrounding community.
  • Grow your academic, social and civic knowledge, and vocational skills.
  • Attend professional and academic enrichment activities.
  • Be required to complete 100 hours on site service (at the campus and community sites).
  • Present your work at the annual Huskie Service Scholar Showcase.
  • Receive $1,200 partial tuition waiver.

You can read more information on eligibility and the program application. For any additional information, please email service@niu.edu.
