Becoming an Undergraduate Research Ambassador

Undergraduate Research Ambassador Duties

  • Mentor a small group of students in the Research Rookies program
  • Serve as peer advisors
  • Represent OSEEL professionally and positively at research, recruiting and outreach events
  • Facilitate workshops and visit classes to share research opportunities
  • Build partnerships within their college
  • Serve on a committee for NIU's annual Conference on Undergraduate Research and Engagement (CURE)
  • Provide recommendations to OSEEL staff on ways to engage undergraduate students as researchers

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at NIU and in good academic standing
  • Minimum of one semester of faculty-mentored research experience
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Attend URA orientation and monthly cohort meetings
  • Host 2 hours of office hours per month (30 minutes per week) for peer advising
  • Participate in up to 10 hours of flexibly scheduled activities per semester, in addition to required orientation and cohort meetings
  • Commit to a full academic year, August to May
  • Compliance with NIU code of conduct

  • Week of June 17: Virtual interviews conducted
  • Week of June 24th: Decision letters sent via email
