The Center for Nonprofit and Nongovernmental Organization (NGO) Studies
Our center is committed to the growth and development of civil society through research, community engagement and training the next generation of community leaders.
We offer NIU students with all different talents, passions, and experiences the ability to learn about the nonprofit and NGO sector and then apply that knowledge to their communities. And we provide nonprofit organizations with many ways to build their capacity so they can better meet their mission by providing consulting services, internships, research assistance and professional development programs that connect the latest research to practice.
Nonprofit and NGO Studies Academic Programs
Nonprofit and NGO Studies (NNGO), an interdisciplinary program and the only undergraduate nonprofit degree program at a public university in Illinois, was created for students who want to make a difference in the world and build their academic experience based on their passions. Students can choose from three undergraduate programs: major, minor or certificate.
The academic curriculum is enhanced through in-class and out-of-class experiences, working side by side with nonprofit partners. Our undergraduate students apply their knowledge right away and throughout their program through service, volunteerism, activism, internships, research and consulting. From year one to graduation, NNGO programs help students understand the world around them and forge a nonprofit career pathway full of possibilities.
