Located in the Peters Campus Life Building, our Center for Student Assistance is here to support you during your time at NIU, whether you're on campus, off campus or studying online. Come to us for help with academic struggles, personal or family issues, or any other difficulty you experience. We'll provide you with assistance or direct you to someone who can help.
Our Department of Police and Public Safety is comprised of 55 sworn officers and additional support staff who protect and serve our campus community 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. We offer a variety of safety services, training programs and resources to make sure NIU is a safe place to live and learn.

With the NIU Safe App, you can receive weather and safety warnings, get police assistance at the touch of a button and walk safely across campus by allowing friends or the police to temporarily track your progress. The NIU Safe app links to the ETA Spot bus tracker. It tells you where the Huskie buses are at all times of day—and night.
Counseling and Consultation Services provides comprehensive mental health support to NIU students. Everything from providing crisis support and individual therapy to delivering presentations and programs, our trained staff professionals are committed to improving your mental health as you work toward your academic and personal goals.
As a student, you'll have instant access to Togetherall, an online mental health platform that is monitored by mental health professionals. Get support from your peers, any time of day or night. when you’re facing a tough situation, feeling low or just need to connect with someone.
Our Northwestern Medicine Student Health Center provides outpatient health care similar to what you might find at an urgent care facility or your primary care physician’s office. The Student Health Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m to 4:30 p.m. for in-person appointments and virtual visits.
As a Huskie, you should never experience food insecurity. You should focus on your education, not on where you are getting your next meal. Our Huskie Food Pantry provides all Huskies with staples such as fresh produce, canned and boxed goods, and household and hygiene products.
Help your budget and the Earth by "shopping" at the Huskie Closet. You can shop for free business and casual clothing and shoes. You can also donate clean, usable clothing that no longer serves you but might be perfect for someone else.
