Your application is submitted in an online form at the beginning of your packet as further described.

To submit your application, draft the following information and then copy/paste into the provided form in this section of your packet:

  • Educational Background (Include name of institution and location, dates attended, and degree earned)
  • Professional Experience (List institutions, rank or title, and dates of appointment concerning all professional positions in chronological order showing the most recent first. Include name of institution, rank/title, and appointment dates)
  • Effective Date of Promotion/Tenure (Date Promotion / Tenure will become effective, if approved)

Research Narrative 1 required

Attach a statement of your research and scholarly activities explaining the overall focus and direction of your published work and/or of your engaged research and scholarship. Explain your current work in progress. This statement should be understandable to colleagues outside your discipline.

Publications and other Professional Contributions 1+ required

Attach a list of your scholarly products. List full bibliographic information; indicate whether the work was invited or refereed; provide explicit information as to the status as accepted for publication, give the date of the acceptance letter of the work if accepted but not published.

List in the following order, with each genre arranged in reverse chronological order:

Grants, Fellowships and Academic Leaves 1 required

Include all applications with dates (with most recent first) and relevant details (title/purpose, granting agency, amount, start and end dates, role (PI, co-PI, co-investigator). Clearly indicate which applications were awarded.

Provide evidence of the impact of your scholarly activities and accomplishments:

  • Honors or awards
  • Citations of work
  • Visibility and quality of the venues in which work appears

Teaching and Learning

Teaching Narrative 1 required

Provide a statement regarding your teaching activities and teaching-related engagement activities that offers context for the evidence you are providing. The statement should offer your own assessment of your teaching-related activities by addressing your teaching roles and responsibilities; your personal teaching strategies and goals; your efforts to evaluate and improve your own teaching; and your use of best practices as appropriate to your discipline.

Summary of Courses Taught 1 required

Provide a list of the courses you taught each semester during the last 3 years. Use the table found at the following link: go.niu.edu/summary-of-courses. Limit two pages. Additional information can be included with supplemental files.

Theses and Dissertations (or equivalents) 1 required

List names of students, thesis or dissertation, titles of works, degree sought, and semester/year directed, and service on thesis and dissertation committees.

Advising and Mentoring up to 1 optional

List advising and mentoring activities, if any, and provide relevant details.

Evidence of Effective Teaching 1+ required

Provide evidence of indicators of student learning that may include but not limited to:

  1. Efforts to ensure your currency in the discipline;
  2. Examples of making use of instructional best practices, as appropriate to the discipline; supported by ongoing professional development to ensure awareness and implementation of those practices;
  3. Efforts towards addressing student learning outcomes;
  4. Examples of active student engagement, and of providing students with both a measure of control and a sense of responsibility for their own learning;
  5. Examples of making use of regular feedback and assessment to ensure that learning is occurring and the instructional process is effective. As applicable to the discipline and via attachment, provide illustrative examples of graded student work (without names attached) showing excellent, average, and poor work along with comments as to why they were so graded.

Professional Development 1+ required

Provide evidence of steps you have taken to evaluate and improve teaching (including advising) such as changes in course content and/or teaching methods; development of new courses or redevelopment of existing courses; new course projects, materials, and class assignments; attendance at meetings and/or workshops to improve instruction; and efforts to further university teaching priorities.

Other Relevant Information up to 1 optional

Optional: provide a summary of other information relevant to your teaching and learning: grants received for the improvement of teaching, teaching awards or other recognitions from students and/or colleagues. Limit two pages.


Service

University Service 1 required

Attach a summary of your service contributions to the university:

  1. Major committees at the department, college, and university levels. Indicate both the chief accomplishments of these committees and your role in bringing about these accomplishments
  2. Responsibilities as coordinator or leader of interdepartmental and other special programs, including those in academic advising at the department and college levels, or in organizing/ administering continuing education activities
  3. Workshops offered, special assignments, etc., with dates and relevant details
  4. Reader or Graduate School representative on theses or dissertations
  5. Fulfillment of special tasks assigned by the university or the college
  6. Other institutional service

Professionally-Oriented Public Service 1+ required

Provide a summary of your professionally-oriented public service. Include activities with dates and relevant details, e.g., courses, workshops, seminars, exhibits, community outreach projects, and other academically oriented instructional experiences that utilized your professional expertise; grants received to support engagement projects recognized as service in your discipline; community engagement, public addresses, television appearances, testimony before governmental agencies, consultantships, publications for lay audiences, assistance to community groups, etc.

Other Professionally Significant Achievements up to 1 optional

Optional: provide a summary of other achievements: service awards and recognition, offices in professional societies, service to granting agencies, editorship of professional journals, scholarly refereeing, honors and awards received, etc., with dates and relevant details.
