Affiliated NIU Offices and Resources

Below is a list of NIU offices that provide support for research, scholarly, and artistic externally funded activities.

  • NIU’s division of Outreach, Engagement and Regional Development provides support for broader societal impacts of research and other externally funded activities. In some cases, engaging in broader societal impacts activities is a required component of a funded project. For information and assistance, see Advancing Research Impact in Society (ARIS).

  • The NIU Libraries subscribes to a funding search database titled Funding Institutional, which can be found on the library's website by searching under the Database tab. Directions for accessing the database are included there as well.

The Libraries also offer the Huskie Commons institutional repository to host scholarly materials and creative works produced by the NIU community. This may help faculty meet funding agency open access requirements or otherwise provide access to their scholarship record.

  • The Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations at the NIU Foundation can provide assistance pursuing private foundation and/or corporate funding. To inquire, please contact Erin Smith, Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, at erin.smith@niu.edu. (Please also remember to coordinate with Sponsored Programs Administration to ensure institutional policies pertaining to proposals for external funding are met.)

  • The Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning provides support engaging undergraduate students in research, scholarly, artistic, and externally funded activities. To learn more about OSEEL and to request assistance, contact the office via their website.
