The following guidelines for compiling a Works Cited List in MLA style are outlined by Joseph Gibaldi in MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers 6th ed. (New York: MLA, 2003).
The sections referenced are 5.2-5.9.
The author's first name should be spelled out.
Reese, George. Database Programming with JDBC and Java. Beijing: O'Reilly, 2000.
Names should be given in the order they appear on the title page. Only the name of the first author should be written in the last name, first name format. All other names should follow after a comma in the first name, last name format.
Dietel, Harvey, and Paul Dietel. C How To Program. New Jersey: Prentice Hall, 1999.
Use the name of the author only in the first entry; all subsequent entries should be preceeded by three dashes followed by a period, the title, and the publishing information. These entries should by alphabetized by title.

Use the authors' names only in the first entry; all subsequent entries should be preceded by three dashes followed by a period, the title, and the publishing information. Alphabetize these entries by title.

The compiler's or editor's name should be followed by ed. or comp.

The entry should start with the article's author, fsollowed by the title of the article enclosed in quotation marks, then the editor's name, the name of the anthology, publishing information, and the pages where the article appears in the anthology.
