Call the Police

Northern Illinois University Department of Police and Public Safety maintains close partnerships with Illinois law enforcement agencies. Here are some links that will give you a better understanding of how the police agencies overlap and work together. You can contact each of these agencies for police services.

Report a Crime

There are four police agencies who serve the DeKalb area and have authority in the DeKalb campus area: NIU Police, City of DeKalb Police, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police. Here is an explanation of each agency and their contact information.

Give a Tip

Every police department has a mechanism to confidentially file a report. This section will give you access to the phone numbers, emails and apps to make anonymous police reports.

Report a Sexual Assault

Sexual assault is an extremely intrusive personal crime with little public understanding. This information was gathered in conjunction with the Student Concerns committee of the 2015 VAWA Task Force to empower those affected by sexual assault. This link provides the information you need to know if you become aware of a sexual assault and is a great source of information for survivors as well.
