Recording Arts and Media Technologies

Join us to explore the recording arts and media technologies as an undergraduate or graduate student. This area of study is designed for the modern engineer and musician, and combines audio, video and computer technologies. You'll gain knowledge and experience in:

  • Studio and location recording techniques.
  • Audio postproduction for video.
  • Acoustics and studio design.
  • Webcasting and robotic camera operation using Internet2 technology.
  • Live sound and event logistics.
  • Lighting and rigging for the performing arts.

You'll have opportunities to:

  • Participate in ensembles and take lessons on your primary instrument.
  • Receive private instruction and coaching from Dan Nichols, a Grammy Award-winning recording engineer and NIU instructor.
  • Work with WNIU/WNIJ and other organizations.
  • Collaborate with students from the School of Theatre and Dance and other areas.
