Accessibility and Seating – Boutell Hall

Welcome to the NIU School of Music! We're excited to have you join us for a visit and learn more about our programs. Through our visits - virtual or in person - we work to create a day that allows you to experience life as an NIU Music student. We will do our best to accommodate your schedule along with our faculty/staff/NIU student schedules that allows us to maximize your visit opportunities.

Parking

The Music Building is located at 550 Lucinda Avenue, DeKalb, IL 60115. Parking lots that surround the building can be accessed from Lucinda Avenue (lot 22), Gilbert Drive (lot 4) or College Avenue (lot 3). All of these lots require a visitor permit.

When visiting NIU, you will need to obtain a visitor permit from Parking Services or use pay-parking facilities (i.e. parking meters, pay stations or visitor Parking Lot.)

Accessible Entrances and Seating

Entrance to the School of Music

• The best entrance door to the music building with a mechanical door opener is off of the Collage Ave. parking lot. 
  • Head north (straight toward the building) on the sidewalk until you come to a sidewalk to the east (right).
  • Turn right on that sidewalk and enter the building using the mechanical opener.

Entrances to Boutell Hall

• There is a slightly sloped entrance leading to the doors of Boutell Hall.
• There are ramps on the west and east (right and left) sides of the hall as well.

Seating

• When entering the main doors to Boutell, turn toward the left side and down to the end of the last row of seats. There is a wheelchair and scooter accessible area.
• When entering through the west side ramp, turn right. When entering through the east side ramp, turn left.

Directions to NIU

From the West

From I-90: Exit onto State Route 20 East. From 20 East, take SR 47 South to SR 38. Take SR 38 West approximately 15 miles to DeKalb.

From I-88: Exit at Annie Glidden Road (toll) and go north two miles.

From the East

From I-90: Exit onto SR 47 South. Take SR 38 West approximately 15 miles to DeKalb.

From I-88: Exit at Annie Glidden Road (toll) and go north two miles.

From the South

From I-39: Exit I-39 to I-88 East. Travel I-88 East to exit at Annie Glidden Road (toll) and go north two miles.

From SR 23: Travel north to SR 38 (intersection of 4th St. and Lincoln Highway in DeKalb).

From the North

From I-39: Exit I-39 to I-88 East. Travel I-88 East to exit at Annie Glidden Road (toll) and go north two miles.

From SR 23: Travel north to SR 38 (intersection of 4th St. and Lincoln Highway in DeKalb). Turn left (West) on SR 38 and turn right on Castle Drive (main entrance to campus).
