For assistance navigating this transition call 815-753-8300 or email for assistance Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Knowledgeable staff from the Center for Students Assistance are available to provide direct assistance or to connect students to the right campus resource.

Technology Support Updates

  • If you are need of a computer or Wi-Fi hotspot the library has a limited number that can be checked out for the semester. Contact and include your Z-ID and full name in the email to set up a time to pick up a computer. Supplies are limited. NEW

University Libraries

The University Libraries can help you find the resources you need to complete your course assignments. They also have a limited supply of laptops that can be borrowed to connect to your online course(s) or complete coursework. Contact the Subject Specialist librarian assigned to your field for assistance. 

The University Libraries also have a guide for continuity of library services and resources that provides up to date information for how you can make use of the library's services. This includes tutorials for how to search the online catalog for ebooks as well as how to search databases for full text articles.

Disability Resource Center

The Disability Resource Center can help ensure that students with disabilities are receiving the services they need to be successful, such as CART services for web conferencing sessions. In some circumstances and subject to capacity, they may also be able to assist with captioning audio or video content

Counseling and Consultation Services

Counseling and Consultation Services is available to provide mental health support for currently enrolled students. Our team of trained professionals are standing by to assist with mental health and adjustment concerns. To schedule a phone appointment, contact us at 815-753-1206.

Academic Support

ACCESS Tutors and Writing Support will be provided online beginning March 16.

Academic Advising

We are offering non-face-to-face advising. Your academic advisor will reach out to you to make arrangements that work for you. Options could include the following:

  • Virtual video conferences
  • Phone calls
  • NIU emails
  • IM chats

To reduce barriers to registration, all registration holds will be temporarily removed.

Career Services and Jobs PLUS

Students who have scheduled appointments will be offered the chance to cancel or shift to phone. All future appointments will be offered virtually.
