The Academic Success Action Plan (ASAP) Program is here to help you if you have been placed on academic warning, probation or dismissed from NIU. Through ASAP, we will help you reflect on challenges, develop effective academic strategies, and create a personalized plan for your academic success.
How It Works
The ASAP program uses a four-phase model focused on reflection, planning, accountability and continued growth.
Phase 1: Review, Plan and Prepare
Advising appointments are available at the beginning of the semester. During these meetings, you will:
- Review your semester schedule.
- Discuss GPA and academic standing requirements.
- Set short-term academic goals.
- Update your Success Plan.
- Connect with campus resources and support services.
Phase 2: Kick-off Workshop
Participate in a small group workshop early in the semester to:
- Reflect on previous academic experiences.
- Assess challenges and successes.
- Revisit your Success Plan.
- Develop a SMART goal for the semester.
Phase 3: Weekly Group Academic Coaching
After completing the Check-in Workshop and College Readiness Survey, you will be placed into an accountability group led by peer academic coaches. These weekly sessions focus on:
- Accountability and motivation
- Academic skill development
- Time management and organization
- Building successful academic habits
Phase 4: Planning for Upcoming Semesters
Early advising appointments are available later in the semester to:
- Review academic progress and projected GPA.
- Plan for future semesters.
- Reflect on growth and accomplishments.
- Prepare for continued academic success .
