The Sculpture Program is centered on a combined exploration of materials, techniques, and concepts.  The faculty presents a comprehensive curricular program that incorporates and crosses traditional boundaries of material considerations with the student’s personal vision.  NIU Sculpture fosters the exploration of the historical, social and conceptual dialogues that surround the contemporary practice of Sculpture.  As a sculpture student, you can take advantage of a program that encourages interdisciplinary activity, and acquire a formal understanding of ‘making’, which will expand and enrich your own artistic practice. 
 
The sculpture facility offers its advanced and graduate students private studios and equipment for: mixed medium construction, wood/steel fabrication and mold making. 
 
NIU Sculpture benefits from its proximity to Chicago.  Local practicing artists visit campus for lectures and critiques every semester.  Sculpture students also travel to the city where they are exposed to the most innovative art and practices.  Real-life experience is then brought back to the classroom where you will learn to discuss your work and perform at a level that is consistent with the current world of art.
