Fall 2023 financial aid processing timeline - for students enrolling in the fall 2023 semester, we are currently in the process of determining aid for the upcoming school year. Make sure to check your MyNIU tasks in case our office is requesting any additional documentation. You will receive an email notification to your NIU email when your financial aid offer is available.
Spring 2023 financial aid - for students enrolled in the spring 2023 semester, make sure you have accepted any federal loans you need to pay your bill in your MyNIU by May 1 and completed the MPN and Loan Entrance Counseling on studentaid.gov.
Summer 2023 financial aid processing timeline - for students enrolling in the summer 2023 semester, financial aid is typically awarded in May/June after you have enrolled at least half-time.

2023-24 FAFSA is Open
The FAFSA form is available for 2023-24. Students should complete or renew their FAFSA form for each year that you will be attending college. Illinois students who are not eligible for federal financial aid should complete the Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid.
On Aug. 24, 2022, the Biden-Harris Administration announced a Student Debt Relief Plan that includes one-time student loan debt relief targeted to low- and middle-income families. The application is open through 12/31/23.
