Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

Supreme Court Decision

The Supreme Court's decision to deny certiorari, meaning that at this time, they will not hear arguments to overturn the lower court decisions to keep DACA in effect, is a rejection of the administration's efforts to bypass judicial review and attempt to force the court to terminate DACA on a highly accelerated timeline. We encourage students to renew their applications. As of right now it is more than likely that the DACA case will not be heard by the Supreme Court before October 2019.

What You Should Know

  • DACA is still at great risk of being terminated. This ruling doesn't prevent another effort to terminate DACA protections; it merely allows lower court rulings allowing DACA renewals to remain in place for the time being.
  • DACA recipients should continue to renew. Eligible DACA recipients should get their renewals in as soon as possible (see below for the list of external resources).
