The strength of a university comes from its people. We rely on members of the NIU community to help lead the university. People from across campus come together in groups to represent the interests of employees, faculty members and students.
These governing groups, or bodies, meet regularly. They discuss issues affecting their members and the entire campus. Each group's leaders attend the other groups' meetings. The groups also inform the Board of Trustees of issues that affect the people they represent.
This system of shared governance ensures that all the voices of the university are heard.
