Policy Writing Template

This template is designed to lend structure to and provide a framework for policy information and ensure consistency from one policy document to another. The template contains major sections representing required information in every policy document. When building your policy in this template, please keep the text formatting as simple as possible, using a standard outline format. Do not change fonts or apply any special formatting to the text. Do not insert extra paragraph spaces between paragraphs. New policy proposals or revisions must follow the university’s Editorial Style Guide (PDF).

The policies must:

• Be easy to read.
• Be specific.
• Use language that is easily understood by the intended audience.
• Have the correct policy name on the submission form.

The policies align operations, set behavioral expectations across the university system, mitigate institutional risk, and communicate policy roles and responsibilities.
