Mentoring and Engaging Through Academic Success (METAS)

Vision

The METAS mentoring program seeks to A.C.T. on behalf of all Latino and Latin American freshmen or incoming transfer students by:

  • Assisting with their transition to college, especially during the first six weeks of classes
  • Creating a sense of belonging and community at NIU
  • Transforming and encouraging the academic success and social well-being among freshmen and transfer students, centering the equity gaps, needs and challenges experienced by those whose identities include being members of the Hispanic and Latino/a/x communities

Mission

The METAS mentoring program serves to provide a supportive and welcoming environment and help create a "home away from home" atmosphere for participating students. The program assists students as they transition and adjust to college life by providing social, cultural and academic support.
