Giving Back to the NIU College of Law

Tomorrow's leaders — in virtually every walk of life — are today's students at the NIU College of Law. By giving back to NIU Law, you can help ensure the high quality of their education.

Challenges of Rising Costs

As a public institution, we’re dedicated to providing a quality, affordable education to all qualified students. In the past, NIU primarily relied on state support to sustain educational quality. Today, that support has declined to less than 25% of the university’s budget.

While public support has declined, higher education costs have risen dramatically. The need for new instructional technologies tells part of that story. An increase in utility costs also contributes, as does the need for new student services, particularly financial aid. The list goes on and on, but there are few new sources of revenue to meet these challenges.

Importance of Private Support

We remain committed to keeping tuition and fees affordable and now look to private donors for the support needed to maintain our excellence. Private support is the only area of support with the potential for long-term growth.

When you give to the NIU Foundation, your gift can be distributed directly to the College of Law. In this way, you help to ensure that we continue to maintain our position as a first-class environment for teaching and learning.

Giving Opportunities

There are several ways for alumni and friends of the NIU College of Law to give to the school. We’ll work with you to explore your options and make the giving experience comfortable and fulfilling.

Your gift will support important programs and initiatives, including:

  • College of Law operations (faculty support, Law Library, technology)
  • PILS auction
  • Graduation awards
  • Endowed scholarships

Employer matching opportunities may also be available.
