Once an international student has been admitted to NIU as a freshman or transfer student, they will automatically be considered for either a merit or housing scholarship. Students will be awarded either one of these scholarships as long as they are still available.

Merit Scholarship

Students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5/4.0, as computed by NIU standards. The amount of each award varies from $5,000 to $9,000 per academic year. This is a renewable scholarship.

Housing Scholarship

Students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75/4.0, as computed by NIU standards. Students receiving this award will live in the Neptune West residence hall. Each award is valued at $3,600 per year. This is a renewable scholarship.
