Once you have been admitted to NIU as a freshman or transfer student, you can be considered for either a merit or housing scholarship. You can apply for the International Student Merit Scholarship from the Office of International Admissions through the MyScholarships application.

You must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5/4.0, as computed by NIU standards. This scholarship is only valid for students who are fully family-sponsored and hold visa classifications ordinarily requiring out-of-state tuition and fees. The amount of each award varies from $5,000 to $9,000 per academic year. This is a renewable scholarship.

You must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75/4.0, as computed by NIU standards. Students receiving this award must live in Neptune Hall in their first academic year. Each award is valued at $2,000 per year towards on-campus room costs and it does not cover the cost of a meal plan. This is a renewable scholarship.
