Parking at NIU

Parking Permits

On-campus parking near the NIU Music Building between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday currently requires a valid parking permit.

To find information about Community School of the Arts parking permits or to purchase a permit online, visit the NIU Parking Services webpage.

Short-term Parking

There is on-street parking close to the Music Building near Annie's Woods and on roads immediately to the east of the building. You don't need a parking pass for on-street parking.

You can also use AIMS Mobile Pay to find timed parking in designated areas and pay from your device. You can either download the AMP Park app from the Apple or Google store, visit the AMP website, or scan the QR code located on the AMP sign at your designated parking area. Mobile Pay zone 4, located in lot 4 on Gilbert drive is $1.20 per hour, up to four hours and $6 for the day.

There is also a Pay Station near Anderson Hall (across Lucinda Ave., opposite the Music Building). You can park there for $1.20 per hour, up to four hours or $6 for the day. After you park, enter the number of your parking space and pay at the machine located at the entrance to Anderson Hall. The machine accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, bills and coins. Please keep your receipt in case a parking ticket is issued in error.

Event Parking

Free parking for community school concerts and special events is available for those without a parking permit in the lot south of the Music Building. This is lot 3 on the campus parking map (PDF). A "Music Event" sign will be posted at the parking lot entrance.

Please note: This is normally a permit-only lot.
