String Day

hands of a man playing the cello

Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

String Day provides high school orchestras and their directors with an exciting day of musical enrichment. The event includes a short performance by each group in the Music Building concert hall, an on-stage workshop led by NIU faculty members, master classes with NIU string faculty, and a performance by the renowned Avalon String Quartet

Due to safety concerns related to COVID-19, String Day 2021 will be held online and the participation fee will be reduced.

Orchestra directors have the option to send a pre-recorded orchestra performance. Directors and orchestra members will experience school orchestra performances on YouTube, participate in master classes and engage with NIU faculty on Zoom, plus enjoy pre-recorded performances from NIU Philharmonic and The Avalon String Quartet
