Internships connect classroom learning with real-world experience. At NIU, internships require a minimum of 120 work hours and should relate to economics. They can be completed during the fall, spring or summer semesters.
To earn credit, students must meet with the director of undergraduate studies to plan their internship, obtain necessary documents, register for ECON 494 and submit the internship permission form. This form outlines goals and requirements, which include applying economic concepts to the role.
Once requirements are met, a grade is assigned and a statement is added to the transcript: "Completed a career-related work experience documented by Career Services."
