Memorial and Endowment Funds

The following is a list of endowment and memorial funds with areas of special emphasis:

The S. Orville and Adra Baker Library Endowment

  • Benefits the Rare Books and Special Collections Department. Special emphasis is placed on British drama.

DeKalb Genetics Foundation Endowment

  • To provide for the annual support, maintenance, use, and expansion of the “DeKalb AgResearch and Successor Companies Collection” in the University Libraries Regional History Center/University Archives.

The Friends of NIU Libraries Endowment

  • Funds the acquisition of costly items, to be housed in Rare Books and Special Collections.

Gildemeister Library Endowment

  • To provide support for the University Archives with special emphasis on awards for staff development for employees within Archives and Manuscripts Collections.

The Bernadine Hanby Endowment

  • Funds the acquisition of materials on education, travel, and recreation.

Donn V Hart Memorial Fund

  • To be used to enhance the Donn V. Hart Southeast Asia Library Collection through supplementing print and non-print collections.

The Tom and Deanne Holzberlein Endowment

  • Funds the purchase of hardware, software, and other technology for the Cataloging and Automated Records Department

The Horatio Alger Society Endowment

  • Funds the acquisition of Horatio Alger, Jr. books and related materials

The Gordon W. & Jeanne M. Huber Endowment

  • Funds the purchase of popular children's literature, with an emphasis on boys' and girls' series books.

The Takashi Ikemoto Endowment

  • Funds the acquisition of materials on Japan, Buddhism, and Zen in particular

The Martin Kallich Endowment

  • Funds the acquisition of eighteenth century related materials.

Dr. James B. Pick & Dr. Rosalyn Laudati Endowment

  • To provide funding for the purchase of library materials in all formats, in support of any academic unit on the Northern Illinois University campus and all of its branch campuses.

Bill & Jo Monat Library Endowment

  • Funds the acquisition of materials for the social sciences and humanities

Dr. Carla Montgomery Two Millionth Volume Library Endowment

  • To provide funding for the purchase of library materials in all formats, in support of any academic unit on the Northern Illinois University campus and all of its branch campuses.

The Gordon E. and Virginia L. Rasmussen and Friends Music Library Endowment

  • Funds the acquisition of music scores and journals

The Peggy Rae Sapienza Endowment

  • Supports the growth, maintenance, and promotion of the science fiction and fantasy collections in Rare Books and Special Collections, including documenting SF/F Fandom.

Southeast Asian Studies Collection

  • To augment the Southeast Asian Studies Collection, particularly from the Indochinese countries and also to acquire publications issued by the Southeast Asian immigrants in the United States.

Veterans Book Memorial

  • To provide funding for books that are appropriate to the memorial of all veterans.

The Katherine Walker Library Work Scholarship

  • Scholarship benefits students (preference to undergraduates) who are interested in library and information science as a career.

The Russell & Betty Wood Library Endowment

  • Funds the acquisition of library materials for the general collection
