What NIU offices, departments or resources have helped you feel safe, supported and successful? And how?
The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at NIU has been instrumental in providing a supportive and inclusive environment for my academic and professional growth through the Statistics Assistance Center (SAC) and Statistical Consulting Services (SCS). SAC helps me gain a strong understanding of statistical concepts in my classes. SAC (DuSable Hall 356) is the best place to get your statistical problems solved. For my research work, SCS helped me gain valuable real-world experience by supporting clients in research and professional work involving statistics. Faculty members are approachable and supportive, offering guidance and mentorship to students. Moreover, resources such as International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), the Center for Student Assistance, the Navigate app, Career Services, University Libraries and the Technology Support Desk at the library have provided valuable support and assistance, helping me navigate the challenges of graduate studies effectively. Overall, the strong support system at NIU has played a crucial role in my success as a graduate student in mathematical sciences.

Who has been one of your favorite instructors/professors and why? What course did they teach?
Professor Alan Polansky from the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at NIU has been one of my favorite instructors. His deep knowledge of nonparametric statistical methods, combined with a genuine passion for research, is truly inspiring. In STAT 610 (Theory of Statistics I) and STAT 600 (Probability Theory), Professor Polansky skillfully guided us through intricate statistical theories and their diverse applications. His teaching approach, centered on critical thinking and problem-solving, has significantly enriched my understanding of statistical theory and its practical implications.

How have you benefited by attending class regularly?
Attending class regularly has been instrumental in my academic journey. Active participation in lectures not only enhances the depth of understanding, but also cultivates an interactive and dynamic learning environment, making the educational experience more insightful and engaging.
