Self-Service

There are tools available to assist with individual policy procurement online, making the transactions quick and very user-friendly. These are most often used when individuals are seeking coverage for one-time special events, sports camps, renters insurance, individual professional policies and the like.

Individual Insurance Policies

CampusConnexions is an excellent resource for procuring individual insurance policies. As a customer of Marsh/Mercer brokerage services, NIU and its faculty, staff, students and guests have access to these affordable insurance options. The site offers:

  • Special event coverage
  • Travel insurance
  • Professional liability insurance
  • Renters insurance
  • Coverage for multiple other situations

Select Northern Illinois University from the “Campus Connexions – Home” drop-down box and wait for the page to load. Go to the Products tab at the top, and select the desired coverage to be taken to the application. A quote is issued on the spot, and payment by credit card is accepted. It makes for very simple and quick transactions for affordable insurance policies.

Sports Camp Insurance Program

URMIA - Sports camp insurance offers coverage for third-party sports camps on university property.

This provides liability coverage as well as an Excess Accident Medical Policy that assists with medical bills related to camp accidents and subsequent camper injuries.

International Travel Supplemental Coverage

AJ Gallagher - International travel insurance offers supplemental coverage for individuals traveling internationally whose primary coverage may not include emergency medical treatment, repatriation, natural disaster evacuation, political unrest evacuation, etc.

For more details on whether this coverage may be useful, please see the international travel best-practices section.

Select “International Travel Enroll” under the “Enroll Now” section on the left of the page. Create an account (hint: add zeros in front of student ID to reach nine digits; if you are not a student, enter zeros in front of employee ID or enter nine random digits for individuals not employed by NIU), and follow the steps to procure the appropriate policy.
