Sponsored by the Presidential Commission on Well-being (PCWB), the Well-being in Action Award is presented annually to recognize the contribution of an NIU employee who has made outstanding contributions that enhance the well-being of our campus community.
The presentation of the Well-being Award serves as an opportunity to:
- Recognize and encourage the leadership, dedication and commitment of individuals who have made outstanding contributions to well-being on campus.
- Honor and celebrate the goal of creating a culture of well-being on campus.
- Make individuals' positive contributions to well-being visible.
- Recognize achievements and contributions which might otherwise go unnoticed.
Eligibility Requirements
- Employees (staff member, faculty member or graduate assistant) who have been affiliated with NIU for one or more years are eligible for nomination.
- Individuals nominated should have distinguished themselves by making significant contributions to the campus community.
- Nominations for co-recipients within a category will be considered only when the nominees' contributions were made as part of a collaborative or team effort, indicating that the nominees jointly accomplished the achievement for which they are nominated.
Nomination Process
Nominations for this award must be made by a member of the NIU community including operating staff, supportive professional staff, faculty, student body or alumni. No self-nominations. A complete nomination must include:
- Nomination form.
- One supporting form.
Contributions considered for nomination may be in the form of, but not limited to, areas such as:
- Serving in leadership positions in well-being focused campus organizations.
- Initiating and/or implementing well-being programming, or workshops, services, trainings or seminars.
- Serving as an advocate on issues of importance to well-being.
- Fostering a sense of well-being above and beyond regular job duties.

The nomination deadline is Monday, March 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. CST.
Selection Criteria and Process
A selection committee drawn from the membership of PCWB will review nominations. Depending on the number and quality of nominations, it is the intention of PCWB to recognize at least one NIU employee member.
Selection will be made based on the following criteria:
- Demonstrated contributions to improve quality of life, well-being of individuals and the campus community.
- On-going leadership and/or service.
- Efforts beyond expectations and work responsibilities.
- Achieving results and affecting positive change.
Presentation of the Award
The Well-being Award is presented annually at the Joint Presidential Commission Awards Ceremony.
