Our orientation program is required for all admitted students. You'll meet other students, learn about campus offices and resources, meet with your academic advisor and register for classes. You must register for an Orientation Day and complete some tasks both before and after you attend your Orientation Day and advising appointment.
Orientation Date and Advising Appointment - Registration Required
Choose in-person or virtual:
In-person: This is a day on campus where you learn about campus tools and resources and connect with other new students. You also will meet with your academic advisor and register for your first-semester classes. You may bring up to two guests to your in-person Orientation. View a sample schedule (PDF).
Virtual: For the select virtual dates available to transfer students, the Orientation Day and advising session will take place online via Microsoft Teams.
Post-Orientation Program (POP 2.0)
POP 2.0 is a required self-guided module that you complete after attending your Orientation Day. It will help you learn more about how to get involved and engaged on campus to make the most of your time at NIU. You will receive information about accessing POP 2.0 through your NIU email after you complete your Orientation Day and advising appointment.
Make Sure You’re Ready
Stay on track by completing the orientation checklist. You have tasks to complete prior to your Orientation date.
Check your NIU email account frequently! Important information is shared weekly to help prepare you for your first semester at NIU, so make time to review the information that is sent to you.
