First-year Family Orientation

Your student is taking a big step by becoming a Huskie. We want you to feel comfortable as they begin their life at NIU. We invite you to learn all about us through family orientation.

Online Family Orientation

Our online family orientation is called the Family Support and Resource Guide. We recommend families and guests using this module as a supplement to the on-campus orientation or as a resource if you’re not available to accompany your student. This module was designed to introduce to campus, the academic and support staff who will play a key role in your student’s success, to the Huskie experience and help answer questions you or your student may have. Our virtual family orientation is available in English and Spanish.

Attending Orientation with your student

If you also plan to accompany your student on their in-person Orientation date, you and your student will stay together for the large group sessions, and we’ll have sessions just for you. During the on-campus family orientation, you will learn about how you can support your student as they work toward graduation and how you can stay connected with the university.

Our NIU 2024 New Student Orientation Guide should help you get a feel for what to expect during your Orientation.
