Honors Capstone

The capstone is a significant research or artistry project required for graduation with Full University Honors and optional for Associate University Honors. Students will work closely with a faculty mentor to develop personalized learning outcomes and strengthen their communication and critical thinking skills.

  • Find Faculty Mentor

The first step is to begin the process of looking for a qualified faculty member to supervise your project. This could be a professor you know from a class in your major, minor or from an extracurricular activity. We recommend beginning this process at least one semester prior to the initiation of the capstone project.

  • Capstone Project Proposal

Meet with your faculty mentor to discuss the “what,” “why,” and “how” of your project. Fill out the University Honors Capstone Project Proposal (DOCX).

Submit the proposal by the Sunday after week two of the semester. You'll receive an email indicating if your proposal was accepted. If it was denied, you'll have the opportunity to resubmit.

After you submit your proposal, upload a copy in Suitable.

  • Present Project

In order to receive credit, you must present your project. This could be at a department or college showcase, the Conference on Undergraduate Research and Engagement, Honors Day Celebration, or a local, regional or national conference, for example.

  • Submit Project

The Sunday before finals begin (by 11:59 p.m. CT), you must submit your work in the Suitable app.

    1. Submit a PDF of your final capstone project.
      • All final submissions must include a written paper or for videos, performances or artistic endeavors, a 500-1000 word summary is required.
    2. Complete the capstone reflection survey.
    3. Upload your project to Huskie Commons.
    4. Upload a photo of your capstone presentation.

Testimonial

My capstone was by far the most rewarding and difficult thing I have ever done. I would never have composed a piece like I did without being in the Honors Program. I will be able to put that on my resume and use it for the rest of my career.
